Platelet-rich plasma (PRP)

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a concentrate of platelet-rich plasma protein derived from whole blood, centrifuged to removed red blood cells. It has a greater concentration of growth factors than whole blood, and has been used to encourage a brisk healing response across several specialties, in particular dentistry, orthopedics and dermatology.

How does it work?

PRP begins by collecting blood by using a syringe and needle in the arm, similar to a clinic laboratory blood draw. The amount of blood needed is determined by the size of the area to be treated.

The blood is then placed in a centrifuge where the rapid spinning process separates the blood into 3 components—the plasma or water portion of the blood, the PRP layer, and the cellular layer containing red and white blood cells.

The PRP layer that contains the growth factors and enzymes for healing and rejuvenation is then injected into the areas being treated, this may be the face, neck, decollate, or any part of the body in need of rejuvenation.

What are the benefits ?

Re-injection of the body’s platelet rich plasma portion helps stimulate new blood vessel formation, collagen production and helps build a new dermis so the skin is plumper, rejuvenated and more youthful looking.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy is also known to help stimulate hair growth. We have seen more and more patients return to us for this particular treatment to treat receding hair lines / male pattern baldness.

Is it safe ?

The product injected is 100% natural and 100% your own blood by-product, autologous, which means that there is no risk of an allergic reaction. The procedure is an outpatient treatment which takes normally no longer than an hour.
